A stony shore or stone beach is a coastal biome that is almost entirely made of stone and gravel. Stony shores replace beach biomes in some mountainous areas.

Generation

Stony shores replace normal beaches in areas of low erosion, often characterized by nearby hills or mountains. Rarely, stony shores can generate completely landlocked. Because they can generate at any temperature, stony shores commonly border a wide range of biomes, from snowy plains and deserts to temperate forests and plains.

Nearby, the deep dark often generates underground due to the low erosion.

Description

Stony shores are made entirely of stone and variants, with long strips of gravel. They are usually a steep drop into the water they border. Stony shores may generate at high enough elevations to have snow on their peaks (above Y=120±8), even when bordering warm biomes.[1] However, most of the surface is too warm for snowfall and ice, resulting in a large contrast with snowy biomes.

In Bedrock Edition, buried treasure can sometimes generate at high altitudes; in Java Edition, it doesn't generate here.[2] Ores are often exposed in stony shores.
