A straw bed is a single-use utility block that allows a player in the Overworld to sleep through the night without resetting their spawn point. It breaks without dropping anything when the player wakes up in the morning or leaves the bed mid-sleep.
Obtaining
Breaking
Straw beds can be mined using any tool, but a hoe speeds up the process. Straw beds drop themselves when broken, except when they are broken after sleeping.
- incorrect tool, drops nothing
- correct tool, drops nothing or something other than the block itself
- correct tool, drops the block itself
- italicized can be instant mined
- ↑ These durations ignore any other influential factors (e.g., Mining Fatigue) and are measured in seconds. For more information, see Breaking § Mining efficiency.
Crafting
Natural generation
Straw beds generate naturally in abandoned camps.

Usage
A straw bed is a single-use bed variant that does not reset a player's spawn point when used. Once the player sleeps in it, the straw bed breaks without dropping anything once the player is no longer in the bed; this occurs either when the night is passed or the player leaves the bed manually.
Similar to sleeping in a regular bed, sleeping in a straw bed changes the weather to clear, and prevents phantoms from spawning for three in-game days.
Unlike beds and respawn anchors, straw beds do not explode if the player attempts to use them in an incorrect dimension (i.e the Nether or the End). It instead destroys itself and drops nothing, as if the player had slept in it.
Unlike beds, straw beds are not bouncy and unlike hay bales, they intentionally do not reduce fall damage.[1]
Straw beds do not count as beds for the purposes of villager mechanics; villagers do not claim or sleep in straw beds, nor are they considered when determining whether villagers are willing to breed.
The inventory icons for straw beds are deliberately designed to be visually distinct from each other in Java Edition and in Bedrock Edition.[2]
Composting
Placing a straw bed into a composter has a 65% chance of raising the compost level by 1.

Reveal
| May 30, 2026 | Various content creators, such as Mogswamp, Bobicraft, and Highkeyoli, start revealing straw beds on social media. They confirmed that Mojang was certain it was coming, but were not sure if it would be in Wilderness Bound.[3][4][5][6] | ||||||

| When asked if straw beds explode when players attempt to sleep in them in other dimensions, Mogswamp stated that they disappear, but that the developers asked them for feedback, and his group's consensus seemed to be that they should explode.[7] | |||||||
