Consists of

The starting house[1] was a structure that acted as the starting place when first spawned in a Java Edition Indev world. It could be considered the first "structure" added to the game (though it could also be considered a feature).

Generation

When creating a new world, the player spawned inside the starting house located in the center of the world.

Structure

The structure consisted of a single 7 block wide × 7 block long × 4 block tall room, with a 1×2 hole for players to exit and two torches on the interior. When starting houses were added, they were made of mossy cobblestone (which was unavailable naturally on the map anywhere else) and 4 chests, one filled with TNT, one with a full stack (99 at the time) of every type of block, another with every type of item and one filled with every color of cloth. As Indev progressed from testing items and blocks to testing the actual survival aspect, these chests were removed. Later, the design of the house was changed. The floor was changed to stone and the walls and roof were changed to planks.

Chest contents

The contents of the chests changed between versions.

Indev 0.31 20100124-2119

The original layout in Indev 0.31 20100124-2119 contained Block and Item chests;

Indev 0.31 20100124-2310

A dedicated TNT chest was added in Indev 0.31 20100124-2310, but the stack of TNT in the Blocks chest remained;

Indev 0.31 20100125

Cloth was then moved to its own chest in Indev 0.31 20100125, and removed from the Blocks chest;

Indev 0.31 20100128-2200

New tools and items were added, and all stacks went from 99 to 100 items;

History

Java Edition Indev
0.3120100124-2119 Added starting house.
The starting house is made of mossy cobblestone with two torches and three chests.
Contained 99 of every block in the game except for dirt, water, lava, fire, and double slabs.
A smaller chest contained a shovel, pickaxe, axe, flint and steel, 99 apples, a bow, and 99 arrows.
20100124-2310 Added chest with 54 stacks of TNT to the starting house.
20100125 Cloth has been separated from the main chest of blocks to its own chest.
20100128-2200 Added 100 coal, diamonds, iron ingots, and gold ingots to the items chest. Iron, wood, stone, and diamond shovels, pickaxes, axes, and swords have also been added.
Blocks and items are now found in stacks of 100.
20100129-1447 Removed TNT and cloth chests.
Removed all items from the blocks and items chests.
20100130 Removed the remaining chests.
20100213 The starting house is now made of planks and stone.
The starting house now only spawns in flat, unobstructed areas. However, as a side effect, if there is no suitable place to spawn a starting house, it simply does not spawn.
Java Edition Infdev
20100227-1414 The starting house has been removed.
