A firework star is a crafting ingredient used to create explosive firework rockets, which deal damage based on the number of stars added. Firework stars can be crafted using various combinations of dyes and other items, which affect the appearance, colors, and visual effects of the resulting explosions.
Obtaining
In Survival mode, firework stars are obtainable only through crafting. In Creative mode, the generic version[JE only] or all 16 color variants[BE only] can be found in the Creative inventory.
Crafting
| Ingredients | Crafting recipe | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Gunpowder + Matching Dye + Extra ingredients (optional) |
More dyes (up to a total of eight) can be added for a mixed color. One head, gold nugget, feather, or fire charge can be added. Both the diamond and the glowstone dust can be added with any of the other ingredients. | |
| Matching Firework Star + Any Dye |
Adds a "fade to color" effect to the firework star, overwriting any existing fades. Up to eight dyes can be added. |
Additionally, in Bedrock Edition and Minecraft Education only, a single unit of bone meal, lapis lazuli, cocoa beans, or ink sacs can be used to set the base color of a firework star. They cannot be mixed with any other ingredient (whether color or effect ingredients), nor used to add a "fade to color" effect.

[Bedrock Edition and Minecraft Education only] No other ingredients are allowed. |
Usage
The only usage of firework stars is to create firework rockets. Firework stars crafted with rockets trigger damaging explosions after their duration ends, including when used to propel the player while using elytra.
