How do I build a sphere layer by layer?
Mark the centre column first, then start at the bottom layer: the slider shows each layer as a top-down chart. Build the ring of one layer, check it against the chart and go one layer up. Switch on "Layer below" to see the previous ring in grey, so you can see how far the next one moves out. Scaffolding makes the overhanging lower half much easier.
How many layers does a sphere have?
As many as its diameter: a sphere of 21 has 21 layers, a sphere of 22 has 22. Layer 1 is the bottom. With an odd diameter there is one middle layer (layer 11 of 21); with an even diameter the middle falls between two equal layers.
How big can a sphere be in Minecraft?
The generator goes up to 256 blocks. The Overworld is 384 blocks tall, from Y −64 to Y 319, so a sphere of 256 fits if its centre is between Y 64 and Y 192. For very large spheres, save the layers you are working on as PNGs.
Thin or thick shell?
Both shells are closed: water, light and mobs cannot pass where two blocks only touch at an edge. A thin shell needs the fewest blocks. A thick shell gives every block a full face to build against, which helps in survival, where a block can only be placed against another one, and it looks more solid from the inside.
How do I dig out a round room?
Switch to Filled: the total is the number of blocks you mine. Start at the top layer and work down, so you always stand on the next layer, and follow the chart ring by ring.
How do I keep the plan while building?
Download the layers you need as PNGs; each file name includes the layer number, for example sphere-21-layer-11.png. The share link opens the generator at the same size and layer on your phone or a second screen.
