How to use the dome generator

    1. Set the diameter. It is the width of the bottom ring. Use the same diameter as the wall or tower the dome sits on.
    2. Set the height or leave it empty. Empty means a half sphere (16 layers for a diameter of 31). A lower height gives a flatter dome, a higher one a taller, egg-shaped dome.
    3. Build from the bottom ring up. Layer 1 is the widest ring. Go up with the slider, the arrow buttons or the side view; Layer below shows the previous ring in grey.
    4. Note the blocks per layer. The counters show the current layer, the total, stacks and shulker boxes; Blocks per layer lists every layer.

How many blocks does a dome need?

A hollow dome with a diameter of 31 needs 1,233 blocks with a thin shell and 2,125 with a thick one; filled, the same dome takes 8,132. A flatter dome needs fewer blocks, a taller one more. Every total in the generator is also shown in stacks of 64 and in shulker boxes of 1,728 blocks.

    Frequently asked questions

    How tall is a dome?
A half sphere is about half as tall as it is wide: a dome of 31 has 16 layers, because the middle layer of an odd diameter belongs to the dome. Enter a smaller height for a flatter dome or a larger one for a taller, egg-shaped dome, and the generator stretches the curve to fit.
Is a hollow dome open at the bottom?
Yes. The hollow dome is a shell without a floor, so it can sit on a wall, a tower or the ground. Filled counts the whole half sphere, for example for a hill or the blocks you dig out for a domed cave.
How do I put a dome on a round tower?
Give the dome the same diameter as the tower. With thin outlines on both, the first layer of the dome is the same ring as the tower wall, so you can build it directly on top of the wall or let the top layer of the wall be the first layer of the dome.
How do I build a glass dome underwater?
Build the shell in glass from the bottom ring up, then remove the water inside: soak it up with sponges, or fill the space with sand or gravel and dig it out. A thin shell is enough, because water cannot flow through a corner where two blocks only touch at an edge.
Should a dome have an odd or an even diameter?
Odd diameters are centred on one block, even ones on 2×2 blocks. Match the tower or room below and its doors: odd for openings 1 or 3 blocks wide, even for 2 or 4. The Odd/Even button switches between the two.
