(Sodium) Streamline

Streamline changes when the game renders and how much work each frame does. It caps the frame rate while nobody is watching and trims per-frame busywork. It culls nothing: what gets drawn is Sightline's job. Client only.

FPS governor

  • Unfocused window: 15 FPS. Minimised: 3 FPS. No input for 5 minutes: 30 FPS. Every cap is adjustable, and 0 switches it off.
  • Any input lifts the cap on the next frame; a held movement key counts as input.
  • Minimised stays at 3 FPS, not 0, so the client keeps ticking and multiplayer stays in sync.

Frame limiter and VSync

  • Precise Frame Limiter replaces vanilla's FPS limiter with a wait-then-spin one, for steadier frame times whenever a cap is active. It costs a sliver of one CPU core.
  • Adaptive VSync tears on a late frame instead of stalling for a whole refresh, where the driver supports it.
  • Both are off by default.

Per-frame work

  • Animated textures can be frozen by category: water, lava, fire, portal, the rest.
  • Steady Lightmap stops the torch flicker and skips rebuilding the lightmap when nothing changed.
  • Particles surrounded by air skip the block-collision scan, with the same outcome. Vanilla HUD layers are drawn in batches, and the F3 text is rebuilt 10 times a second.
  • A slider for ambient block effects; switches for the enchantment glint and the vignette.

FPS meter and overlay

  • The FPS meter sits top right: FPS, average frame time, 1% low and the cap the governor is applying.
  • The debug overlay shows the governor state, per-tick skip counters and any hook that failed to attach. Both are off by default.

Requirements

Minecraft 1.20.1 (Forge or Fabric), 1.21.1 or 26.2 (NeoForge or Fabric), on Java 17, 21 and 25 respectively. The Fabric builds need Fabric API. Client only. Sodium is optional: on 1.21.1 and 26.2 the options are in its video settings; otherwise in the config file. Missing on 1.20.1: HUD batching. Missing on 26.2: HUD batching, the precise limiter and the vignette switch.

This mod has been abandoned. It works fine, but it will not receive updates.
