Tinkertime geology is a mod aiming to spice up harvesting of diamonds and emeralds without overcomplicating it. To start, mine diamond or emerald ores to get unrefined gems. smelt them to clear off the remaining rock clusters and get dull gems, and use a stonecutter to polish them into their vanilla items.
