A simple mod knocked together in the latest release of MCreator (found here).
The concept of this mod is relatively simple: Tired of spending forever mining for Netherite, want to get it slightly faster but not game-breakingly fast? This simple mod is the solution.
The mod implements a block known as 'Nether Shard Ore', spawning from Y 4 to 64 in the Nether, which when mined with a Diamond or better pickaxe, will drop 'Petrified Scrap Shards'. It will only drop 1, but this can be increased to a chance of getting up to 3 per block with various levels of the Fortune Enchantment. The Shard Ore is less common than the Quartz or Nether Gold ore, and harder to spot due to it blending with Netherrack, however it is not as insanely rare as Ancient Debris.
However, for the sake of balance it also takes significantly more Scrap Shards to get a piece of Netherite. 32 to be precise. Upon getting Petrified Scrap Shards, you must smelt them in a Furnace or Blast Furnace and craft 8 of them with a bucket of lava to get a single piece of Netherite Scrap, which, from there, follows the vanilla method to obtain a Netherite Ingot.
Due to the spawning patterns of the ore and the amount of it required to get Netherite, it is recommended to look for this ore while mining for regular Ancient Debris if you're looking to maximize Netherite output. This mod will not only relatively increase the amount of Netherite you get when mining for it, but also gives you a better chance of finding it when exploring the Nether or doing things like digging out Nether Highways, making acquiring Netherite more convenient and less tedious while still not ruining the relevancy of the vanilla Ancient Debris.
If you have any criticisms or suggestions for the mod, please list them below! I shall try to keep this mod updated for the forseeable future in line with releases of Forge, however I do not have any plans currently to backport to older versions or make a Fabric version.
