Four farmer villagers harvest and replant four glass-walled fields and throw their spare carrots, potatoes or beetroot to a villager in the middle, where hopper minecarts collect them. Up to 850 crops per hour, no redstone.
This design works in Minecraft Java 1.14+.
Tick what you have gathered — it is remembered together with your step progress.
Farmers (villagers with a composter as job site) harvest mature carrots, potatoes, beetroot and wheat and replant them. Villagers share food: one with plenty throws some towards a villager with little. Hopper minecarts pick up items at their position, and hoppers pull items out of minecarts above them.
A farmer that has never traded can lose its job when it cannot reach its composter – trade with each farmer once. The crops grow on random ticks only near a player (since 1.21.5 in any loaded chunk); the glowstone keeps them growing at night. For wheat Shulkercraft recommends a different design.
~820 Carrot/h — Measured on 26.3 (Oct 15, 2026). Measured with our automated test on a local Minecraft server (fake player at the AFK spot); your rate depends on render distance, difficulty and surroundings.
This is the only version of this farm so far.

Farmer villagers harvest fully grown crops and replant them by themselves. When a farmer has more food than it needs, it throws some to a villager that has less. This farm uses that: four farmers work in four 9 × 9 fields, and one unemployed villager stands in the middle between four hopper minecarts.
Everything the farmers throw to it lands on the minecarts, which pass it down through a small hopper funnel into a double chest. Each field can grow a different crop – carrots, potatoes or beetroot.
