PCA Classroom

Run a Minecraft lesson like a classroom: freeze the class, bring everyone to you, mute chat, start a countdown and put messages on every screen, with one command each.

PCA Classroom gives teachers the "eyes on me" tools they need during a live lesson. Sort students into class groups once, then freeze, gather, mute or message a whole group (or everyone, or one student) at once. It was made by Pixel Creators Academy for teaching servers, and works on any Forge 1.20.1 server.

It's server side only: students don't need to install anything.

What it's like to use

It's the middle of a build lesson and you need everyone's attention:

1. /class freeze all Look at me please and every student stops where they are. The words "Look at me please" appear in big letters in the middle of their screens. They can't walk, jump, fly, break, place or hit anything until you're done. Logging out and back in doesn't get them out of it.
2. /class gather year7b and the whole group appears in a circle round you, all facing you. Anyone still frozen stays frozen where they've landed.
3. You explain the next task, then /class unfreeze all and /class timer 15m Build a shelter. A green bar at the top of every screen counts down "Build a shelter: 14:59". It turns yellow for the last minute and red for the last ten seconds, then everyone sees "Time's up!" and hears a bell.
4. Chat getting silly? /class mute year7b 5m. Those students can't chat (or sneak round it with /msg or /me) for five minutes, and they're told how long is left if they try.
5. Want everyone in adventure mode for a puzzle? /class gamemode adventure all.

Teachers are never frozen or muted, so other staff in the lesson can keep working.

Features

• Class groups: make groups like year7b or red-team and add students with normal selectors (@a[distance=..10] works). Groups are saved and can include students who are offline.
• Targets: every command works on all (every student online), a group, or one player, with tab completion for all three.
• Freeze with an optional message, and unfreeze.
• Gather: teleport students to you in a neat circle, even from another dimension.
• Mute chat for a set time or until unmuted, including private messages and /me.
• Game mode for a whole group at once.
• Countdown timer as a boss bar that changes colour as time runs out, with a "Time's up!" title and bell.
• On-screen messages: /class say year7b Two minutes left! puts the message in big letters on their screens and in chat.
• Heal: full health and food for a group after a tricky challenge.
• Status: see who's frozen and muted, the timer and the groups at a glance.
• Teachers who aren't ops: ops can give other staff the /class commands without giving them full op powers.
• Everything is logged: each teacher action is written to the server log, e.g. "MrSmith: Froze 24 players (group year7b)".

Commands

Times can be written 30s, 5m, 1m30s, 1h, or a plain number of minutes.

Requirements and dependencies

No other mods are required.

• Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge 47 or newer
• Install on the server only. Students can join without it. It also works in single player and on LAN.

It sits happily alongside the other PCA mods (PCA Puzzle, PCA Currency and so on) but doesn't need any of them. Being a teacher is the Forge permission pcaclassroom.teacher, so any permissions mod can make players teachers without making them ops.

Standalone

PCA Classroom doesn't need the Pixel Creators Academy server or any PCA service. It works on any Forge 1.20.1 server.

Getting started

1. Put the jar in your server's mods folder and start it.
2. As an op, make your class group: /class group create year7b, then /class group add year7b @a while the class is online.
3. Try /class freeze year7b Hello! and then /class unfreeze year7b.
4. To let a non-op teacher use the commands: /class teacher add MissJones.
