Noise Boost is a Minecraft world generation performance optimization mod and a fork of FastNoise.
It provides further optimizations for noise filling, biome generation, aquifer computation, chunk palette writing, and heightmap processing. The mod does not include a configuration file — simply install it and it takes effect.
Under the same mod pack, same exploration route, and comparable test conditions, Noise Boost delivers approximately 15% better world generation performance compared to FastNoise.
PerlinNoise, iterating only over octaves that actually exist and using fixed primitive arrays to store amplitude and frequency factors.Climate.RTree search kernel for the vanilla default distance metric, while preserving the original child node order and strict comparison rules.Current benchmark results show that Noise Boost is approximately 15% faster than FastNoise. Actual improvements may vary depending on:
Therefore, the 15% figure is a reference value based on the current test environment and does not guarantee identical improvements in all setups.
Noise Boost addresses suspected memory leaks or object retention issues found in FastNoise's derived implementations:
NoiseChunk are cleared of references after interpolation completes;Climate.RTree clears leaf node references after each query, preventing long-term retention of world-owned objects;PerlinNoise are held only by their corresponding noise instances, without establishing static object reference chains;ThreadLocal caches that permanently hold chunks, NoiseChunk, or aquifer objects. These changes primarily prevent temporary world generation data from being unintentionally retained. "Memory leak fixes" here specifically refers to identified potential retention paths and does not guarantee resolution of all memory issues caused by other mods or the JVM itself.
Noise Boost is developed based on ZenXArch's FastNoise. Thanks to the original authors of FastNoise for providing the foundation for world generation optimization.
