What is Levelz+?
LevelZ+ is a modular expansion and compatibility suite for LevelZ on Fabric 1.20.1.
Its purpose is to let LevelZ progression affect more of the game without forcing a large dependency stack. LevelZ is the only required gameplay mod. Every external integration is optional and only activates when the relevant mod is installed and its module is enabled in the config.
Version 2.0 is a major consolidation release. The former standalone Tom’s Simple Storage and combat compatibility mods have been folded directly into LevelZ+, alongside the new Small Ships Dockyard integration and the existing configurable LevelZ stat bridges.
Current functionality:
LevelZ+ extends several LevelZ skills into systems that LevelZ does not natively control. These values are configurable and can effectively be disabled by setting their per-level contribution to 0.
Endurance / Stamina
- Maximum Stamina scaling through Stamina Attributes.
- Stamina regeneration scaling through Stamina Attributes.
- Melee stamina-cost reduction through Better Combat Extension.
- Increased food effectiveness.
- Faster passive health regeneration when Passive Regen is installed.
- Increased positive Diet gain when Diet is installed.
Agility
- Combat Roll distance scaling.
- Combat Roll recharge scaling.
- Additional roll charges at configurable LevelZ thresholds.
Luck
- Virtual Fortune added to block loot.
- Bonus positive XP gain.
- Zenith Attributes critical-hit chance scaling when available.
Archery
- Zenith Attributes draw-speed scaling when available.
Trade
- Increased Numismatic Overhaul coin rewards from Bountiful rewards.
Alchemy
- Maximum mana scaling through RPG Mana.
- Mana regeneration scaling through RPG Mana.
The exact per-level values are controlled by:
config/levelz_plus.properties
Optional compatibility modules:
Tom’s Simple Storage:
- When Tom’s Simple Storage is installed, its Crafting Terminal respects normal LevelZ crafting requirements.
- A recipe that would be blocked by LevelZ in a normal crafting interface is also blocked in the Tom’s Storage Crafting Terminal. Once the player meets the LevelZ requirement, crafting proceeds normally.
- This closes the progression bypass that storage-network crafting can otherwise create.
Better Combat:
- When Better Combat is installed, LevelZ+ validates Better Combat attack requests against LevelZ hand-use restrictions.
- This is especially important for off-hand attacks, which use Better Combat’s own network path and can otherwise bypass LevelZ’s normal interaction checks.
- If LevelZ says the held weapon is locked, LevelZ+ cancels the Better Combat attack.
Spell Engine:
- When Spell Engine is installed, LevelZ+ checks the player’s active casting item against the same LevelZ hand-use restrictions.
- If the item is locked, spell synchronization and release are cancelled and the active cast is cleared.
- This prevents Spell Engine’s custom casting network path from bypassing LevelZ progression.
- The Spell Engine module is independent from Better Combat and can be enabled or disabled separately.
Small Ships:
- When Small Ships 2.0 is installed, the Dockyard respects LevelZ crafting requirements for the ship being constructed.
- LevelZ+ resolves the selected hull and wood type to the real ship item.
For example:
smallships:galleon + oak → smallships:oak_galleon
It then asks LevelZ whether that item has a crafting restriction.
- No LevelZ crafting requirement → construction proceeds normally.
- Requirement met → construction proceeds normally.
- Requirement not met → construction is stopped before the Dockyard begins the build.
- Level requirements are not hard-coded into LevelZ+.
- Modpack authors remain in control through normal LevelZ restriction data. Changing a ship from Smithing 30 to Smithing 40 only requires changing the LevelZ data, not this mod.
- Addon ships with unusual item naming can be supported with configurable item-mapping overrides.
Configuration:
The config is generated at:
config/levelz_plus.properties
It is plain-text, annotated, and designed to be easy to understand and edit.
Important sections include:
general.debug
Enables detailed LevelZ+ diagnostics.
Disabled by default.
Useful for confirming module activation, restriction results, item resolution, and compatibility issues.
modules.*
Individual toggles for:
- Tom’s Simple Storage
- Better Combat
- Spell Engine
- Small Ships
All are enabled by default.
A module still remains inactive if its target mod is not installed.
stats.*
Controls all LevelZ+ per-level stat contributions.
Existing LevelZ+ balance values are preserved by default.
Setting an individual per-level value to 0 effectively disables that contribution.
small_ships.*
Controls:
- Dockyard crafting-requirement enforcement
- Denial messages
- Fail-open behavior for unresolved addon ships
- Custom ship-item mappings
Config changes require a game or server restart.
Legacy config migration
If an older:
config/levelz_plus.json
exists and the new properties file does not, LevelZ+ automatically imports the previous stat values and generates the new annotated config.
Required dependencies / platform:
Built for:
- Minecraft 1.20.1
- Fabric
- LevelZ 1.4.13+
- Fabric Loader 0.14.19+ declared
- Tested on Fabric Loader 0.19.5
