You place the initial rope at the bottom of a block, then right click the rope with more rope to add that rope to the current rope. Rope-ception! Think terraria ropes, but will build downwards then upwards, so if you're stuck at the bottom of a cavern, just build a rope upwards!
You climb it like a ladder.
