The Forgotten
Back in Development
The Forgotten is a Minecraft horror mod focused on environmental changes, audio cues, and distant entities. The intensity of these events increases over time.
Tension System
The mod calculates a Tension level for each player based on their environment.
Factors Increasing Tension:
- Staying underground.
- Remaining in dark areas.
- Being isolated from other players.
High Tension Events:
- Auditory effects (footsteps or block-breaking sounds).
- Simulated chat messages from other players.
- Increased entity sightings.
Entities
- Apparitions: Silent entities that watch from a distance and de-spawn when observed.
- The Tormentor: An invisible entity in deep caves that digs towards the player.
- The Observer: An entity located within the Trial dimensions.
- The Hunter: A hostile entity in the Trial dimensions. If it catches a player, the world save file is deleted. (IF safe mode is disabled)
Sign Dialogue
Players can communicate with entities by placing a sign and writing specific questions. The text on the sign will be replaced with a response.
The Trial
The Trial is a series of dimensions used to end the mod's effects.
- Access: Apparitions may drop a ######## Compass*.
- Navigation: The compass directs the player to an entrance located deep underground.
- Dimensions:
- The Corridors: Stone hallways.
- The Library: An archive structure.
- The Mineshaft: A labyrinthine tunnel system.
Completion: Successfully finishing the Trial permanently disables the mod's effects for that player.
Reawakening
To reactivate the mod's features after completing the Trial:
- Place a sign.
- Write the text:
/summon reawake.
- Right-click the sign. Note: Events will return with higher frequency and aggression.
Configuration
Settings are adjustable via config files or the Cloth Config menu:
- Feature Toggles: Enable or disable entities, sounds, structures, and dimensions.
- Tension Tuning: Set the growth rate for tension in different conditions (solitude, storms, underground).
- Event Scheduling: Define the probability of entity appearances and sounds.
- Safety: Set an "Audience Radius" to prevent events when multiple players are in close proximity.
- Safe Mode: Makes sure your worlds are safe.
Technical Information
- Multiplayer: Supported; Tension levels are tracked per-player.
- Modpacks: Authorized for use in modpacks and derivative works.
