Short story. Why this started?
I’ve been playing Minecraft for ten or twelve years.
I finished a nine-hour shift at work. Finally got home, make some tea, and boot up modern NeoForge 1.21.1, hoping to spend a quiet evening building playing with friends in old cozy world. I loaded that one treasured resource pack that I’ve done by myself and carried across hard drives since 2014. It has everything: soft connected glass, glowing torches in off-hand, ultra 3D-swords (if I rename my stonesword to 'WORLD DESTROYYER'. And beautiful skies.
And almost everything is completely broken in new minecraft.
Glass has thick, ugly grid frames. Not seamless. My WORLD DESTROYER is now a regular iron sword. The sky is pitch black.
When you I ask some help online, people told:
“Oh, that’s easy! Just install Polytone, Fusion, Continuity, CIT Resewn, EMF, ETF, that skyboxes mod, dynamic lights. Oh some mods not updated yet. So sad. You should wait… And read their short-40-pages wikis, and convert all your textures into JSON models, because Optifine-format is not fully supported!”
I have immense respect for the developers of those tools, but English isn't my first language. After an exhausting day at my regular job, trying to decipher complex JSON syntax feels like a second shift. I honestly just don't have the energy to spend my precious free evenings converting thousands of texture properties by hand. I just wanted to come home, forget about work, and build something beautiful together with my partner.
So, we decided to take matters into our own hands.
My partner works in enterprise Java backend development by day, while I’m more of a builder and designer. Together, over many quiet evenings with a hot mug of tea, we sat down and wrote clean, native Sponge Mixins to teach modern 1.21.1 how to understand those classic OptiFine and MCPatcher texture formats directly - straight out of the ZIP file, without requiring any manual conversions.
Along the way, while digging into the game's rendering loop after dinner, my partner quietly started ironing out all those annoying little hitches that were driving us crazy on our private server. Things like spreading world loading across our extra CPU threads so chunks load smoothly without stuttering, eliminating that dreadful micro-freeze when you fly fast with an Elytra, and giving torches a soft, gentle glow in your hand when you explore dark caves at night.
They even helped me bring back the classic video settings screen, because after a decade of playing, my fingers have literal muscle memory for the old button layout (my own stubborn habit, I admit!).
And because my partner writes enterprise server software for a living, they have this stubborn professional perfectionism: they refused to let me even touch the release button until our project had nearly two hundred automated tests passing with zero errors. On top of that, they quietly built our own native OpenGL shader pipeline right into the heart of the mod. It parses and runs our favorite shaderpacks like Complementary and BSL straight out of the box - completely self-contained, with zero extra loaders or outside tools needed.
Why juggle fifteen conflicting mods and patch endless configs just to play your favorite pack?

Please don't misunderstand us: we aren't trying to build some massive new rendering revolution or compete with anyone. We're not an active development studio, and we aren't chasing the latest hype.
Pryzma is simply our quiet, humble kitchen-table project. Think of it as a warm, quiet campfire. That you can always return to after months away, knowing that your old resource packs will simply work.
For this reason, we will not be taking feature requests for the foreseeable future. Our priority is keeping this small fire burning steadily - maintaining stability. Don't update if it works.
If you happen to find a genuine bug or a broken texture, you are more than welcome to let us know on the GitHub. But please just keep in mind that we both have real-life full-time jobs, other things outside of gaming. We might not be able to fix things overnight, but we will quietly tend to the fire during our free weekends.
We hope this little mod brings back a spark of that warm, timeless magic to your worlds, too. ♥
