Tired of obtaining Stone Tools in your new Minecraft world in under two minutes?
Tired of obtaining Iron Tools in your new Minecraft world in under five minutes?
We have the solution.
Steve's Primitive Start changes the early game progression to be more difficult and take more time.
The Primitive Stage is the pathway of progression before obtaining your first Iron Tools and Vanilla Furnace. You will need to forage and hunt to survive and progress before you pass the primitive stage, crafting poor makeshift tools and getting reduced resources from using them along the way. You can no longer punch trees with your bare hands. You can no longer punch hard ground with your bare hands.
The mod aims at making the early game progression more realistic and reasonably difficult.
Click the spoiler to see a detailed walkthrough of the new early game progression:
1) Find sticks, rocks, and Plant Fiber. You can find sticks and rocks on the surface ground to pick up, and you can obtain leaf, sticks, and plant fiber from tall grass. You can also obtain leaf and stick from leaves.
SIDENOTE: Sticks can be used to craft Wicker Threads and then Wicker Sheets in your inventory without a crafting table.
These wicker items can be used to craft Wicker Blocks, Wicker Baskets (a chest alternative), a Wicker Bed, and a Wicker Door.
Plant Fiber can be used to craft String and Paper.
Leaves can be used to craft Primitive Arrows and Plant Fiber.
You can also craft spears from three sticks once you have a crafting table.
2) Craft a Rock Axe in your inventory, you can sharpen Small Rocks by hitting them onto a block of Stone. 1 Sharpened Rock, 1 String, and 1 Stick makes a Rock Axe.
3) Attempt to cut down a tree with a Rock Axe. This will provide you with Mishandled Wood Log. Mishandled Wood Log can be chopped down again to obtain two individual Mishandled Wood Plank.
4) 4 Mishandled Wood Plank can be crafted into 1 Mishandled Wood Planks, which can be used to craft a Crafting Table, Bowls, Doors, and Wood Tools.
5) Consider crafting Flint Tools, Wood Tools can not chop down trees, and will break extremely easily and at random. Flint can be sharpened by hitting them on a block of Stone, and Flint Tools are much better than wood tools.
6) Work towards obtaining Stone Tools. Wood and Flint tools do not drop the entire ground block that they break, they instead drop shards. Shards are 1/9th of a Chunk, and Chunks are 1/9th of a Block. A block of cobblestone can be sharpened by hitting it on a block of Stone. Stone tools drop chunks from ground blocks instead of shards or blocks.
7) Build a Campfire and cook clay blocks to obtain individual bricks. You will need brick to craft a Primitive Furnace, which will be able to smelt bricks at the cheaper vanilla cost of clay once you have it.
8) Build a Primitive Furnace, the primitive furnace can smelt Raw Iron/Iron Ore, Raw Iron Chunks, Sand into Primitive Glass, Clay into Brick, Cobblestone Boulders into Stone Blocks, and Stone Boulders into Smooth Stone Blocks. The Primitive Furnace has varying chances to fail and ash when cooking, depending on what is being smelted.
9) Craft Boulders and Smelt them in a Primitive Furnace. Cobblestone Boulders are crafted from 5 Cobblestone Blocks, and Stone Boulders are crafted from 5 Stone Blocks. This will result in you obtaining Smooth Stone Blocks.
10) Obtain a Vanilla Furnace. The vanilla furnace is no longer crafted from 8 Cobblestone Blocks. The recipe now requires 5 Cobblestone Blocks and 3 Smooth Stone Blocks.
11) Obtain Iron Tools. Metal ingots do not need to be sharpened, the recipes for metal tools are the same as they were in vanilla.
12) Profit. You are now out of the primitive stage.
