Pactum is a multiplayer-focused magical contract mod for Minecraft 1.21.1 NeoForge.
Create blood-bound agreements with real consequences. Exchange items, offer experience levels, surrender a soul, or grant another player the right to teleport to you.
Each pact is negotiated at the Contract Table and becomes binding only when both participants sign.
Changing the terms before the pact is finalized invalidates previous signatures.
You can right-click a signed contract to read it later.
Deposit items to offer them to the other participant.
Once both players sign, the offered items are transferred to the opposite party. Only the player identified by each blood sample can modify that side’s deposit.
Matching item entries are grouped in the document, making larger offers easier to read.
Offer experience levels as part of your agreement.
Adjust the amount and preview the resulting levels before signing. The selected amount appears in the parchment and is transferred when the contract is finalized.
Changing the experience offer invalidates previous signatures.
One participant may surrender their soul to the other.
If the holder would die and a vanilla Totem of Undying does not save them first, Pactum can claim an available bound soul:
The player whose soul is claimed must be online, alive, and not in spectator mode. If the holder owns several souls, Pactum uses the oldest available binding first.
Soul protection does not prevent /kill, and a sacrificial death cannot trigger another soul sacrifice.
Protection from the void: Pactum attempts to return the holder to their last recorded safe position in the same dimension. If that spot is no longer valid, it searches for safe ground within 8 blocks. If no valid destination exists, the holder dies without consuming the bound soul.
Pactum also prevents duplicate soul ownership, self-binding, and invalid chains of soul ownership.
Offer another player up to 10 teleports to you.
When the pact is signed, the beneficiary receives a Teleportation Orb:
The destination player must be online and alive. Teleportation places you directly at their position, so use it at your own risk.
Only one participant can offer teleportation in a contract. You cannot create a teleportation agreement with yourself or exchange teleports for teleports.
Orbs resist damage, but they can still be lost to the void or disappear after the normal time on the ground. Lost uses are not refunded.
One participant may promise not to harm the other. Both players can offer this clause to make the protection mutual.
Pactum blocks damage attributable to the player who made the promise, including supported projectiles and owned entities. Damage from other mods is covered when its source identifies the responsible player.
Attempting to attack the protected participant applies penalties:
Combined with Soul or Teleportation: Non-aggression remains active until all soul and teleportation obligations in that contract are fulfilled. Destroying the parchment ends the agreement without a breach penalty.
Without Soul or Teleportation: Each participant receives a linked document: the Signed Contract and a Signed Contract Copy. Destroying either ends the agreement and turns the other into a Consumed Scroll.
For a consensual cancellation, one participant must first collect both documents. Pactum checks the last recorded participant who held each document; if both records match, destroying either document ends the agreement without punishment.
Breaking the agreement without consent penalizes the last participant who held the destroyed document:
Simply dropping a document does not cancel the pact, but its destruction or despawning does.
Items, experience, souls, and teleportation can be included in the same agreement.
Items and experience are exchanged when the pact is finalized. Soul and teleportation obligations can remain active afterward.
A contract combining a soul and teleportation is not consumed until both obligations are resolved:
Messages notify the participants when teleports run out, an orb is lost, or the pact ends.
Signed contracts are more than decorative items.
Pactum stores contract identities, soul bindings, and teleportation progress persistently using player UUIDs and unique contract IDs.
Destroying an active parchment ends its remaining magical obligations:
Simply dropping the parchment does not immediately cancel the pact. However, destruction or normal item despawning does.
Once its ongoing obligations are fulfilled, the parchment becomes a Consumed Scroll, preserving the history of the agreement without its magical power.
Pactum is designed primarily for multiplayer.
Each side of the contract is identified by its blood sample, not simply by whoever opens the interface. Players can view the agreement, but only the corresponding participant can edit their offer or sign for that side.
The server verifies these permissions using player UUIDs.
English and Spanish translations are included.
Pactum is under active development. Future updates may expand the mod with:
The goal is to make contracts a meaningful part of trading, roleplay, alliances, betrayals, and long-term player relationships.
Bugs and unexpected interactions may still occur as Pactum develops.
