Mel's Portals allows you to create any shape of nether portal, at any size, as well as colour the portals with dye. Right-click with any dye to colour a portal.
Portals remain fully functional to my knowledge, though will probably have some compatibility issues with other mods that change portal behaviour.
For MC 1.16.5. No other versions planned.
