Mekanism Gear Optimizer is designed to reduce unnecessary processing caused by Mekanism equipment, particularly the MekaSuit, Jetpack, Armored Jetpack, and MekaSuit Jetpack Unit.
The mod was created after discovering severe performance issues on a server caused by frequent equipment/resource changes interacting with Minecraft's advancement and inventory systems.
Minecraft's `inventory_changed` advancement trigger can be evaluated extremely frequently while certain Mekanism equipment is being used.
Mekanism: Gear Optimizer prevents these inventory advancement checks while problematic Mekanism equipment is equipped.
Currently supported equipment:
When none of the affected equipment is being worn, normal inventory-based advancement processing is restored.
This means the mod does NOT simply disable Minecraft's entire advancement system.
Continuous MekaSuit modules can consume energy extremely frequently.
Instead of repeatedly modifying stored energy every game tick, the optimizer batches supported continuous energy consumption.
Normally:
-1 Energy tick 1 → -1 Energy tick 2 → -1 Energy tick 3 → -1 Energy tick 4 → ...
up to 20 times every second.
With the optimizer:
Accumulate usage → Single energy deduction each second instead of each tick
The total energy consumption is intended to remain equivalent to normal Mekanism behavior.
For example, if a module normally consumes:
1,000 FE/t
then 20 ticks normally consumes:
20,000 FE
The optimized behavior deducts approximately:
20,000 FE once per second
rather than modifying the item's energy storage 20 separate times.
The optimizer is designed to reduce resource mutations, not reduce the tick rate of the equipment itself.
Movement and equipment behavior can continue to be processed normally while resource accounting is reduced.
This is important for systems such as:
The goal is to improve performance without making equipment feel like it only updates once per second.
Not every energy cost should be delayed.
Event-based costs such as certain damage, jumping, or other one-time actions are intentionally treated differently from continuous /tick resource consumption.
The optimizer primarily targets resource usage that would otherwise repeatedly modify an item's stored resources every tick.
Minecraft normally runs at 20 ticks per second.
Equipment that changes its stored energy, chemicals, components, or inventory state every tick can cause other Minecraft and modded systems to react to those changes.
On large modpacks, this can become surprisingly expensive.
Reducing unnecessary resource changes can therefore reduce the amount of work performed around actively used Mekanism equipment.
The exact performance improvement will depend on your modpack.
This mod modifies behavior associated with Mekanism equipment and Minecraft advancement processing.
Mods that substantially modify the same Mekanism internals may conflict with it.
If you encounter a compatibility issue, include your:
when reporting the problem.
Compatibility reports don't have to be limited to problems!
If you're running Mekanism Gear Optimizer alongside other mods and everything is working correctly, please report those mods as compatible as well.
This is especially helpful for large modpacks and mods that interact with:
When reporting successful compatibility, please include the mod name and version whenever possible.
