Magmarok

Wake the volcanic titan in a giant desert coliseum.

Deep in the desert, a colossal sandstone coliseum rises from the dunes. At its heart, on a stepped altar, sleeps Magmarok: a hulking giant of rock and lava. Find the coliseum, grab the Seal from the chest beside the altar, and wake it up if you dare.

Magmarok adds a full boss fight with three phases, an arena designed for it, a unique drop that rains meteors on your enemies, and an illustrated in-game guide that teaches you how to win.

Features

The Desert Coliseum

• A huge arena building, 118 blocks wide and 33 blocks tall, with a 72-block-wide fighting floor.
• Three storeys of arches, cornices, half-columns and battlements, four grand gates, 16 rows of stands and a covered corridor running around the inside.
• The arena is built for the fight: pillars (half of them broken), low walls and obsidian shelters to take cover from the boss's attacks.
• Generates naturally in deserts (including desert hills) in newly generated chunks. At most one per 640 x 640 blocks, so finding one feels like a discovery.

The Altar and the Seal

• At the center, a stepped altar topped with a block of magma. A chest next to it holds the Seal of Magmarok.
• Right-click the magma block with the Seal to summon the boss. A lightning bolt strikes and Magmarok wakes up.
• The Seal is consumed on use. It does not work on Peaceful difficulty, or if a Magmarok is already awake in the coliseum.

Magmarok, the boss

600 health, armor 10, 20 melee damage. Immune to fire, explosions and knockback. Its attacks change as it loses health:

Every attack has a visible warning and a way to dodge it. Phase changes are announced by a roar.

Flame Minions

Fast, fiery henchmen summoned in phase 3. They have 20 health, hit hard, set you on fire, and vanish on their own after 30 seconds or when the boss dies. No loot, no XP: just trouble.

Staff of Magmar (guaranteed boss drop)

Magmarok always drops this staff, topped with a glowing magmar gem.

• Right-click the ground (up to 40 blocks away): mark a circle. Up to 5 circles at once.
• Sneak + right-click: call down a meteor shower on every marked circle.
• Right-click the sky: clear the marks.

Each circle gets 8 meteors over about 5 seconds. They deal area damage and set mobs on fire, without breaking blocks, and never hurt you or other players. 20-second recharge, 64 uses. The staff has an animated texture and its gem changes: ready, armed with marked circles, or recharging.

Illustrated Guide Book

A full in-game book with 14 illustrations, a clickable index and 12 chapters: the coliseum, the altar, the boss, every attack and how to counter it, the minions, the staff, tips and commands.

• Right-click to read. Flip pages with the arrows, the keyboard or the mouse wheel.
• Craft it with a Book + Magma Cream (shapeless recipe).

Creative tab

Everything in the mod has its own Magmarok creative tab, including the Magmarok spawn egg.

Getting started

1. Find a desert coliseum (operators can use /coliseo buscar to locate the nearest one).
2. Open the chest beside the altar and take the Seal of Magmarok.
3. Get ready, step back, and right-click the magma block with the Seal.
4. Survive three phases, take the Staff of Magmar.

No time to explore? Operators can build one on the spot.

Requirements and installation

• Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge.
• Drop the .jar into your mods folder.
• On a server, install it on both the server and the clients: it adds new entities and items.
• Coliseums only generate in newly generated chunks, so explore new desert terrain (or use the commands above).

Notes

• This is the first release (1.0.0). If you find a bug, please report it in the issue tracker with your log or a screenshot.
• Magmarok disappears on Peaceful difficulty.
