Build in any shape with any block. Carpentry adds wooden frame blocks (doors, stairs, slopes, fences and more) that you can cover with almost any solid block. Right-click a frame with concrete, stone, glass or planks and it takes on that block's look and properties, while still working as a door, a stair or whatever shape it is.
Ever wanted a concrete door, a glowstone fence, an obsidian trapdoor or a smooth ramp made of ice? Now you can.
1. Craft or grab a Carpenter's block. On its own it looks like an open wooden frame.
2. Place it, then right-click it with any solid full block to cover it. One block is used from your stack.
3. Sneak and right-click with an empty hand to take the cover back off.
Breaking a covered block drops both the frame and the cover. To place a block against an uncovered frame instead of covering it, sneak while placing.
Doors are covered one half at a time, so the top and bottom can use different blocks.
Building shapes: Carpenter's Block, Slab, Vertical Slab, Stairs, Slope (a smooth 45 degree ramp you can walk up), Slope Corner and Inner Slope Corner for roofs.
Barriers: Fence, Fence Gate, Wall and Pane.
Doors and redstone: Door, Trapdoor, Pressure Plate, Button and Lever.
All of them are in their own creative tab, LuxLuckyyy's Carpentry.
A covered block doesn't only look like its cover. It also copies:
Mining speed: a stone-covered door takes as long to break as stone.
Blast resistance: obsidian covers survive explosions.
Light: glowstone, sea lanterns and other glowing blocks light up.
Slipperiness: ice covers are slippery.
Bounce and fall damage: slime bounces, hay bales soften a fall.
Step effects and footstep sounds: magma burns, wool sounds like wool.
Four sticks in a 2x2 square make four Carpenter's Blocks. Every other shape is crafted from those.
Slab: 3 Carpenter's Blocks in a row. Makes 6.
Vertical Slab: 3 Carpenter's Blocks in a column. Makes 6.
Stairs: Carpenter's Blocks in the usual stair pattern. Makes 4.
Slope: 1 Carpenter's Block on top, 2 below, in a 2x2 grid. Makes 4.
Slope Corner: 2 Slopes side by side. Makes 2.
Inner Slope Corner: 2 Slopes in a column. Makes 2.
Fence: block, stick, block in two rows. Makes 3.
Fence Gate: stick, block, stick in two rows. Makes 1.
Wall: a row of 3 Carpenter's Blocks above a row of 3 sticks. Makes 6.
Pane: a row of 3 sticks above a row of 3 Carpenter's Blocks. Makes 8.
Door: Carpenter's Blocks 2 wide and 3 tall. Makes 3.
Trapdoor: Carpenter's Blocks 3 wide and 2 tall. Makes 2.
Pressure Plate: 2 Carpenter's Blocks side by side. Makes 1.
Button: 1 Carpenter's Block. Makes 1.
Lever: 1 stick above 1 Carpenter's Block. Makes 1.
Covers must be solid full blocks. Chests, furnaces, stairs, slabs and other partial or special blocks can't be used as covers.
A few cover properties aren't copied yet: the slow-walking effect of soul sand and honey, redstone power from a redstone block, and break and place sounds.
Slopes show as stepped in the inventory. They are smooth once placed.
Very large numbers of covered blocks in view at once may lower your frame rate.
