Ghost Chunk
You only see where you are. Nothing else exists — until you go back to it.
Ghost Chunk is a purely visual mod that restricts your view to a single chunk (16×16 blocks, full height): the one you're currently standing in. The moment you move into a new chunk, the old one instantly disappears and the new one appears. The rest of the world still exists — mobs keep moving, grass keeps growing, entities keep acting — you just can't see any of it until you're back there.
What changes
- Terrain: blocks, biomes, decorations — only the chunk you're on gets rendered.
- Entities: mobs, players (multiplayer included), dropped items, projectiles, minecarts — anything outside your current chunk stays invisible too.
- No game rules altered: collisions, mob AI, positions, damage — everything keeps working normally behind the scenes. A zombie you can't see can still hit you if it's close enough. This mod hides nothing from the game engine, only from your eyes.
- Instant transition: the visible chunk follows your position in real time, with no noticeable delay or flicker.
Why play with it
Ghost Chunk turns exploration into a game of memory and tension: you can no longer spot a landmark in the distance, see a threat coming before you're on top of it, or just admire the view while walking. Every step is a leap into the unknown. Great for:
- higher-difficulty exploration runs,
- horror/survival sessions where uncertainty is the whole point,
- a personal challenge on a map you already know by heart — rediscovered one chunk at a time.
Compatibility
- Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge 47.4.10+
- 100% client-side: only needs to be installed on the client, no server-side install required.
- Multiplayer: works normally, each player sees their own chunk independently of everyone else.
