GeckoLib Animation Optimizer is a client-side performance mod that reduces unnecessary rendering and animation work for entities using GeckoLib.
It lowers animation processing for distant entities and skips rendering work outside the camera view. Configurable entity and boss filters let you control which entities can be optimized.

Safe Defaults
Block occlusion culling and optimization of other players are disabled by default. Distance-based animation optimization and camera visibility culling remain enabled.
Large or unusually shaped models may extend beyond their normal hitboxes. Test optional occlusion culling with your modpack before enabling it.
**Supported Versions and GeckoLib Requirements**
- Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge: GeckoLib 4.8 or newer.
- Minecraft 1.20.1 Fabric: GeckoLib 4.8.4 or newer.
- Minecraft 1.21.1 NeoForge: GeckoLib 4.9.0 or newer.
- Minecraft 1.21.1 Fabric: GeckoLib 4.9.3 or newer.
Install the appropriate mod loader, GeckoLib and the matching optimizer JAR. GeckoLib must match your Minecraft version and mod loader. No server installation is required.
Configuration
- Forge / NeoForge: `config/geckolib_animation_optimizer-client.toml`
- Fabric: `config/geckolib_animation_optimizer.json`
Edit the configuration file manually. Forge and NeoForge configuration menus depend on compatible configuration-menu mods; this does not imply the same menu integration on Fabric.
Compatibility
Only GeckoLib-rendered entities are affected. Vanilla entities and players are unaffected unless another mod renders them through GeckoLib.
Performance gains depend on entity count, distance and enabled options. The GeckoLib dependency has no upper version limit, but future versions must still preserve the APIs used by this optimizer.
