Realistic Survival
Minecraft’s early game is too easy. In Realistic Survival you have to find clean water, stay warm and dry, treat your injuries and keep your food from rotting. Nothing is handed to you, and you work your way up from sticks and stones.
Survival
- Thirst: drink clean water or get sick from dirty water. Make waterskins and clay cups, and boil your water.
- Body temperature: cold, heat, rain and wet clothes all affect you. Wear fur and keep a fire nearby.
- Injuries: bleeding and broken bones need bandages and splints.
- Stamina: sprinting, swimming and heavy work tire you out. If you run yourself to exhaustion you’ll be winded.
- Harder early game: bare hands barely work on trees or stone, so you need real tools.
Primitive crafting
- Knap flint and gather plant fibre, then make flint hatchets, pickaxes and spears.
- Throw spears, with a charge-up and a proper pull-back pose.
- Tools go dull with use. Sharpen them with a whetstone.
- Mine ore with a hands-on minigame instead of one click.
- Fell trees in layers.
Fire
- Realistic campfire: it burns through fuel and has to be lit.
- Flint striker: a single-use spark made from a rock and flint.
- Bow drill and hand drill: a mouse minigame where you rub back and forth fast enough.
- Fire starter: very good fuel and kindling, crafted from fibre, binding and a stripped log.
- Rain makes lighting a fire harder.
Food and building
- Food spoils over time, and eating raw or rotten food can poison you.
- Use a drying rack, salt and cold storage to preserve it.
- Cook in a cooking pot.
- Make clay bricks and build a brick oven.
- Build with rubble slabs, rubble walls and stick fences.
Requirements
- Minecraft 26.3 or newer
- NeoForge 26.3
- It must be installed on both the server and every player’s client, using the same version.
Configuration
Every major system has an on/off toggle in the config file, so you can turn off whatever you don’t want. That includes thirst, temperature, injuries, stamina, tool dulling, food spoilage, the ore minigame and tree felling.
Notes
- This is an early release, so balance is still changing. Feedback and bug reports are welcome in the comments or on the issue tracker.
- Several textures are hand-made, and some are drawn from my own Blockbench models.
