Overhaul your early game. Survive the wilderness using primitive mechanics!
What is this mod? Early Survival introduces realistic survival systems to Minecraft, focused exclusively on the early game. Instead of simply punching trees to get wood, you will need to gather plant fibers, knap flint to create primitive fire starters, and build early tools to survive your first few nights. This mod is designed to make the early stages of the game more immersive and challenging, without making the late-game progression tedious.
Core Mechanics This mod completely changes your first hours in a new world:
Primitive Tools — Gather plant fibers by breaking tall grass, and combine them with sticks and regular Flint to craft a Flint Axe, Knife, and Pickaxe.
The Cutting Log — Place any log on the ground to create a dynamic Cutting Log. Use an axe to chop the log into usable firewood.
Early Mineral Processing — Place Coal or Raw Iron on the Cutting Log and smash it with a pickaxe to create mineral dust. Combine them to create Steel Dust!
Flint Knapping & Fire Starting — The vanilla campfire recipe is locked! Sneak and strike a piece of flint against any stone block to chip it away and craft a Flint Body. Combine it with a Steel Body (crafted from early steel) to manually spark a fire on a pile of firewood and fibers.
Discovering Fire — Unlocking your first fire grants you the vanilla campfire recipe and a custom advancement.
How to progress
Break grass to collect Plant Fibers.
Mine gravel for Flint, then craft a Flint Axe to safely chop your first trees (punching wood with bare hands will hurt you!).
Build a Cutting Log to process your wood into firewood.
Process coal and iron on the Cutting Log to create Steel.
Knap flint against stone to get a Flint Body, craft a Steel Body, and ignite your first campfire to unlock basic survival recipes!
