Turn dirt, sand, netherrack and other junk blocks into tiny disposable golems that farm, defend and haul items until they wear out.
Every survival world ends up with chests full of dirt, sand, gravel and netherrack. Dirt Cheap Golems gives those blocks a job: two blocks + one cheap core = a small golem that works for your base.
The catch: golems are disposable. They wear out as they work, as time passes and when the weather turns against them. When one crumbles, you build another, and your junk blocks finally have a use.
1. Craft a Golem Core (yields 2)

4 Clay Balls around 1 Redstone Dust. That's it.
2. Stack two blocks of the same material and use the core on them.
The pillar comes to life where it stood, and that spot becomes the golem's home. Golems stay within 16 blocks of it.
| Golem | Made from | Job | Weakness / cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| 🌱 Dirt Golem | Dirt, Coarse Dirt | Harvests and replants mature crops | Melts in rain and water (it runs for cover) |
| 🏜️ Sand Golem | Sand, Red Sand | Stationary turret that blinds and slows hostile mobs | Every shot chips it away |
| 🔥 Netherrack Golem | Netherrack | Walking light that hugs monsters and burns them | 3 blasts and it's ash; turns to stone in water or rain |
| 🟪 End Stone Golem | End Stone | Flies around and teleports dropped items into a linked chest | Every 4 items cost integrity |
| 🪨 Gravel Golem | Gravel | Wall artillery that throws flint, then leaps down and buries enemies in gravel | Every shot costs integrity; the leap is its last act |
| 🛡️ Basalt / Deepslate Golem | Basalt, Deepslate and variants (mixable) | Your personal shield: follows you and absorbs arrows and fireballs | Every projectile it absorbs cracks it |
Wanders around its home looking for mature wheat, carrots, potatoes and beetroot, harvests them and replants using a seed from the drops. It never tramples farmland. When it rains, it hides under cover and waits it out.
Never moves and can't be knocked back. It fires sand at hostile mobs within 12 blocks: Slowness II plus Sand in Eyes, which makes the mob lose its target and most of its follow range. The shots pass right through players and villagers.
Lights up your base as it patrols (light level 12). When a monster gets close, it charges, hugs it and releases a thermal blast that sets nearby hostile mobs on fire. The blast never breaks blocks and never hurts players, golems or passive mobs.
Sneak-click a chest with a Golem Core to link it, then sneak-click the End Stone Golem with that core. It floats around its home and teleports dropped items straight into the chest. Put it next to a Dirt Golem farm and the harvest stores itself. Works with barrels, shulker boxes and modded storage too.
Put it on top of your walls. It throws flint shards at hostile mobs up to 16 blocks away, preferring targets below it. When a monster gets too close or stands right under it, the golem leaps down and buries it under falling gravel. Gravel is only placed in empty space, and it respects the mobGriefing game rule.
Belongs to whoever built it. In Follow mode it walks with you, steps between you and archers, and absorbs hostile arrows and fireballs (ghast fireballs don't even explode). Sneak-click it with a core to switch to Guard mode and leave it protecting your base.
Every golem has integrity (0–100), separate from its health.
Sneak + use the Golem Core for orders. Sneaking never creates a golem.
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| Sneak + click a chest, barrel or any storage | Links it to the core (the core starts to glow) |
| Sneak + click a golem | Gives it an order (link a chest, switch Follow / Guard) |
| Sneak + click the air | Clears the link |
Every number (decay rate, home radius, ranges, damage, costs, drop chances) lives in config/dirtcheapgolems-common.toml. Which blocks build each golem is controlled by block tags, so modpack makers can change them with a datapack.
