Compressed Blocks packs 9 blocks into 1. That saves a lot of inventory space, and it also makes the best wall material in the game. Compressed blocks resist the blast of any explosion. Instead of being destroyed, each explosion that reaches them removes one point of durability, so it takes several blasts to break through.
| Block | Made from | Mine with | Explosions to break |
|---|---|---|---|
| Compressed Cobblestone | 9 Cobblestone | Pickaxe | 4 |
| Compressed Smooth Stone | 9 Smooth Stone | Pickaxe | 4 |
| Compressed Netherrack | 9 Netherrack | Pickaxe | 4 |
| Compressed End Stone | 9 End Stone | Pickaxe | 4 |
| Compressed Dirt | 9 Dirt | Shovel | 2 |
| Compressed Sand | 9 Sand | Shovel | 2 |
| Compressed Red Sand | 9 Red Sand | Shovel | 2 |
| Compressed Obsidian | 9 Obsidian | Diamond pickaxe | 20 |
All eight blocks work the same way.
Compressed blocks aren't destroyed by the blast itself. Instead, every explosion that reaches them removes 1 durability, and they break when it hits zero.
Right-click a block with an empty hand to see its remaining durability above your hotbar, for example Durability: 12 / 20.
Mine a damaged block and place it back to restore it to full durability.
An explosion damages every compressed block inside its blast radius, even blocks hidden behind other blocks. A 3-block-thick wall right next to a C4 loses durability on all three rows at once.
