The claymore's base damage is not that high, however it will increase by killing enemies. In fact it will take 10% of the enemies health as damage, assuming the current damage is not already higher.
The claymore also has three different special abilities, so called states. These can be activated by right-clicking the weapon and can be toggled between using a keybind. By default, the keybind is 'r'
This attack will send "beams" in the direction of monsters near you. It will deal momentum damage. This momunmentum damage increases with every sucessful beam attack
This state allows you to bounce around as if you were using slime blocks
This state allows you to heal yourself half your health for 10 seconds before taking half your health as damage again.
