The server already knows what the island looks like — AlphaMap just shows it to you. A full map, a minimap and your own waypoints, so you always know where you are and where you're heading.
This is a client-side mod for a server that runs the AlphaMap plugin. The server renders the island and sends ready map tiles, so nothing is scanned or generated on your machine. On servers without the map the mod stays completely silent — it doesn't touch your mouse, your input or your screen.
Hold the map key (G by default) to look at the island. Press right mouse button to pin the map and get a cursor.
Structure types come from the server, so a newly added one shows up on the map and in the settings on its own, and an unfamiliar one gets a fallback icon. Every type can be turned on and off separately — once for the minimap, once for the markers floating in the world.
The minimap is composed into a single texture and drawn as one quad per frame, whatever its shape, rotation or zoom. It's rebuilt only when the picture actually changed: standing still costs nothing at all. Nearby entities are collected twice a second, not every frame.
Waypoints are stored locally, separately for each server.
