Description
HarderMC - Fabric
This mod changes core gameplay elements of MC to make them harder and more cohesive.
It is still in heavy development and this is the first pre-release. Feedback and bug reports are appreciated!

It is heavily inspired and partly based on the Better Than Wolves mod, created by FlowerChild, and its Community Edition, maintained by the BTW Community Edition Team.
Tested with 1.18.2 and fabric-api v0.51.1. Should work with other fabric-api versions as well.
Gameplay Changes
Here is a list of the changes this mod introduces:
Animals
- Animals can starve, need Grass or their breeding item as food
- Animals drop nothing if starving
- Specific textures for starving/hungry animals (credits to BTW, see below), animals use lower pitch if hungry
- Children take longer to grow
- Simple eating animations for animals (mostly copied from sheep)
- All animals Produce dung from time to time, about once a day
- Sheep genetics stuff, no gene changing dyes - sheep will revert to their original color after shearing, get new colors by breeding!
- Sheep don't always instantly grow their wool back when eating
- Cows slowly produce milk, milk is now a bit nutritious. Be careful not to milk them when they don't have any yet!
Plants
- Crops will not grow until fertilized
- They are fertilized when they grew by unnatural means once, e.g. bonemeal, dung, Bees
- Dung works exactly as bonemeal on plant blocks
- Bonemeal items & dung apply their effect on crops if they land on them - automation possible!
- Nerfed bonemeal items, only apply 1 growth stage now
- Seeds don't drop from hitting grass anymore - find them as loot!
Miscellaneous
- Players can't eat if food poisoned
- Exhaustion increased, makes Players a bit more hungry overall
- Buffed soul torches to be just as bright as regular ones (meant to use this with a mod that extinguishes torches after a while, but not soul ones)
Compatibility
This mod will have some compatibility issues with other mods, especially when they edit animals as well.
However, this mod is still in development and I strive to fix known problems in upcoming releases.
Known Problems
- Charm's "Variant Mob Textures" will overwrite this mod's hungry/starving textures
- Neutral Animals mod will not work that well on the animals that this mod changes
Config & Gameplay Balance
Configurability will be enabled in an upcoming release.
The gameplay balance is still being tested and is based on mostly a vanilla environment. Mods that introduce additional crops, animals or other food sources will make this mod significantly easier, since some tweaks done by this mod will not necessarily apply to them as well.
