Description

Botany Pots is a mod that lets you grow crops, flowers, and other kind of plants in customizxable pots. Each pot is like a miniature farm, just place add soil, plant the seed, and watch them grow!

Pot Types

Basic Botany Pot

Botany pots are simple blocks that can be used to grow crops and other plants. To get started, right click the pot and place a seed and compatible soil in the inventory. Growing a crop in a botany pot typically ignores environmental factors such as light level, nearby water blocks, etc. Once the crop has been fully grown you can right click the block again to harvest and replant the crop. They also come in a wide variety of colors and material!

Waxed Botany Pot

Waxed botany pots are a decorative variant of the botany pot. Seeds planted in a waxed pot will appear fully grown and can not be harvested or bonemealed. They have been optimized for decorative use and have a minimal impact on performance.

Hopper Botany Pots

Hopper Botany Pots are an upgraded version of the basic pot that can be automated! When the crop is fully grown it will be harvested, replanted, and the drops will go into an internal inventory or into the inventory of the block below the pot. Right clicking the block will reveal 12 new slots for the pots inventory and a new optional harvest tool slot. The harvest tool slot is optional and allows you to define the tool used to harvest the crop. Some crops require harvest tools to get certain drops, for example tall grass will only drop wheat seeds if the harvest tool has not been set to shears. Other factors like enchantments, are also factored. In addition to their other effects, the efficiency enchantment will make crops grow 5% faster for each level. The fortune and looting enchantments will also give you a chance at more drops.

Pot Interactions

Pot interactions are a special type of recipe that happen when you interact with a botany pot. Most of these recipes are very simple, for example you can right click a pot with dirt in it while holding a hoe to transform the dirt into farmland. Another recipe example is creating obsidian by combining lava and soil ingredients.

Other Features

Curse of Idle Hands

The curse of idle hands is a new curse enchantment that protects a tool from taking durability damage when used in the botany pot. It also makes tools effectively useless when used by a player, removing all of their mining speed, attack damage, and interaction distance. This was added as a middle ground for players who want to use harvest tools but don't want to worry about constantly repairing or replacing the tool.

Debug Commands

  • /botanypots debug check_crops - This command will spawn a botany pot at your position and run tests on every crop to find common issues like crops not having a drop defined. The command can have false negatives and false positives, it only checks for common issues that are easily tested for.
  • /botanypots debug missing soils [gen_files] - Scans through the game data looking for soils that may not be defined yet. If gen_files is true the command will attempt to generate datapack files for those soils. Outputed files should always be double checked and only used as a starting point.
  • /botanypots debug missing seeds [saplings] [gen_files] - Scans through the game data looking for crops that may not be defined yet. By default saplings are excluded from the results. If gen_files is true the mod will try to generate datapack files for each missing crop. These files should alway sbe double checked and only used as a starting point.
  • /botanypots debug place_sseds [pos] [all_soils] - This command will generate a grid of pots for every defined seed starting at the defined position. If all_soils is true every combination of soil/seed will be used, otherwise it will only use the first valid soil for each seed.

Growth Modifiers

Growth modifiers are used to change how fast a crop will grow. The most common way to modify the growth speed is through using different soils. For example tilled dirt grows crops 10% faster than normal dirt. Harvest tools can also provide growth modifiers, for example tools with efficiency make the crop grow 5% faster for each level of the enchantment. Other mods and addons may also add other ways to modify the growth!

Yield Modifier & Scale

The yield modifier determines how much a crop will drop when harvested. Most crops have a 100% yield meaning you will always get one set of drops when the crop is harvested. The yield can be modified by soils, tools, and other factors. For example tools with Fortune or looting will give +10% yield for each level of the enchantment. If the yield goes above 100% you have a chance to receive another set of drops when the crop is harvested. For example 150% yield means one guranteed set of drops and a 50% chance for a second set of drops. If you have 450% yield you would get four guranteed drops and a 50% chance at a fifth set, etc.

Yield scale is a property of crops that determines how big of an impact yield modifiers have on them. Most crops have a 100% yield scale, but if it was set to a lower value like 50% only half of the modifier would be applied. For example if you have a soil that gives +1000% yield but the crop has a 10% yield scale you would only get +100% yield from that soil.

The yield system does not come up much with vanilla content, and primarily exists to help addons, modpacks, and servers created custom experiences.

Mod Compatability & Addons

The Botany Pots mod has support for over 1,300 crops and soils from various mods! Support for additional crops and soils can be added by installing various addons and datapacks!

Dependencies

This mod requires the Bookshelf library. On newer versions (1.21.1+) it also requires the Prickle library. If you're ever unsure, make sure to double check the dependencies section on the files page.
