Description

THIS MOD HAS MOVED!
This mod is now known as Nostalgic Tweaks and has moved to this CurseForge page.

Formerly known as the old swing mod, the OSECA (oh-sec-ah) mod brings back old sounds, some old eye candy, and some other old animations throughout various previous versions of Minecraft. The mod name will be fully changed starting with Minecraft 1.18/1.19. This page will also be changed to match the new mod rebranding over time.

All changes can be toggled, and swing speeds are heavily customizable. (Swing speed customization is planned to be separated as a new mod in the future). This mod is intended for nostalgic enthusiasts and those who are photosensitive. You can customize the swing speeds of swords, tools, items, and everything in-between! See the demo video below on what this mod does visually. To get the old lighting used in the video, use this resource pack.

This mod will only be distributed on CurseForge. I cannot guarantee the integrity of the mod if downloaded from anywhere else. Reuploads of this mod is strictly prohibited.

Access to early beta builds will be uploaded to the mod's discord (https://discordapp.com/invite/jWdfVh3).

 Version 4.0.0 (Forge & Fabric 1.18.x)

This is the first release build for Minecraft 1.18.
- Updated mod to Minecraft 1.18 universally for Forge and Fabric using Architectury.
- Added new sound category to the option menu.
- Added new sound feature: Disabled attack sounds.
- Added new eye candy feature: Disabled item merging (will not work in multiplayer).
- Added new eye candy feature: Mob drops will no longer merge (connected to item merging option above).
- Added new eye candy feature: Drops from ores will no longer merge (connected to item merging option above).
- Added new eye candy feature: The Minecraft version will appear in the top left of the HUD like in beta/alpha.
- Added new eye candy feature: Brought back the old button hovering graphics.
- Added new animation feature: Disabled the subtle animation that occurs when trying to move while colliding with a block.
- Updated 2D item simulation by actually making the floating items look like they are in 2D.
- Updated configuration labels and tooltips to make it easier to read and understand what each option does.
- Fixed a bug that would make all entities in the world share the same arm swing speed as the player.
- Fixed a bug that would cause the camera to jitter while standing on a slime block.
- Redid the entire modded reequip animation logic. Now reequipping will function exactly as it did in the old days.

Upcoming
  • More sound, eye candy, and animation options will be added in later updates.
  • Server support for features like item merging is something I want to do for a later update.
  • Some (not all) of the new features will be back-ported to 1.16 (v2).
  • Since 1.17 (v3) was 1.18 part 1, I will no longer be back-porting features to 1.17; however, bug fixes will be patched for 1.17.

Versions 1.2.0 (Forge 1.12.2)

A major OSECA update that replaces the Old Swing mod for 1.12.2.

- Added the current Minecraft version in the top left of the player's HUD.
- Disabled item merging for item drops, mob drops, and block drops.
- Disabled tool disintegration animation and sound when a tool runs out of durability.

- Brought back the old "oof" sounds.
- Replaced unique mob footstep sounds with the block they're walking on.

These new features will be coming to Minecraft 1.18 Forge/Fabric and then ported to Minecraft 1.16 Forge/Fabric.

Compatibility Notes

- If you are using VanillaFix make sure VanillaFix loads FIRST. This can be done by prefixing VanillaFix mod jar with an "a".
- If you are using OptiFine then the OSECA classic main menu feature will be disabled due to a compatibility issue.

What Changes?

Every change this mod makes to the game is configurable.

Sounds
  • Disables all attacking sounds.

Eye Candy
  • Added current Minecraft version in the top left of the HUD similar to how it was Minecraft Beta/Alpha.
  • Added back the old button hovering graphics.
  • Added back the old tooltips.
  • Added back the old item durability bar colors.
  • Redid the item holding animations similar to how it was back in Minecraft Beta/Alpha.
  • Disabled light flickering from light emitting sources. (It is recommended to combine this feature with an old lighting resource pack.)
  • Disabled item merging that occurs when dropping items on the ground, drops from mobs, and drops from blocks.
  • Brought back the old 2D floating items.

Animations
  • Disabled the cooldown modifier animation for items that have a cooldown.
  • Disabled the reequip animation when an item gets damaged while swinging.
  • Disabled the sweeping particles that appear when attacking entities.
  • Disabled the arm sway animation that occurs when looking around.
  • Disabled smooth sneaking.
  • Disabled the item dropping animations.
  • Disabled the tool breaking animation and sounds.
  • Disabled the collision bobbing animation that occurs when trying to move while colliding with a block.
  • Added back vertical bobbing.
  • Added back the old reequipping logic.

Swings
  • The swinging animation has been slowed down.
  • The swinging animation speed can be changed by item category, by individual item, or by potion effects that impact swing speeds.
  • Swinging animations can be disabled entirely if the swing speed is set to 0.

More old school eye candy animations and visuals are also in-development.

Important None of the changes the mod makes to the game will impact block breaking speed or combat. Moreover, these changes are only visible to the client. Meaning only you can see the changes in animation and is server safe.

If you are photosensitive, then this mod may be helpful. All swing speeds are configurable, which means you can disable the swing speed animation entirely if that is what you need. Additional changes will also be made by the mod when it detects photosensitivity mode is enabled. More information on how to enable this mode is discussed in the configuration section below.

The changes made to the item holding and swinging rotation animations have not been seen since Minecraft Beta 1.7. The result of these animation changes provide a smoother swinging experience which is easier on the eyes.

Everything that this mod changes is configurable. That means if you prefer sword swinging speeds to be fast and tool swinging speeds to be slow, you can do that. Want to turn off the swing animation when placing blocks? You can do that. Want to turn off the vertical bobbing and arm sway? You can do that. If motion sickness is of concern for you - or for an audience - I recommend setting the animation speed to 10 or higher and disabling vertical bobbing and arm sway (or turn off view bobbing in the vanilla Minecraft settings). This will result in a slower and smoother swinging animation.

You can open the configuration menu by pressing the O (for Old) key in-game. The configuration menu can also be accessed through Forge's mod menu. If you are using Fabric, OSECA does provide support for the mod menu API.

If you are photosensitive, open the configuration menu and click on the General Settings button. Click on the plus (+) icon to expand the Swings settings section. At the bottom of this section, change the Global Swing Speed slider to 0. This will disable the swinging animation entirely for everything. The mod will also make additional changes to other animations to help better your experience.

Note - Here is a list of mods that have been known to collide with this mod:

  • None yet reported.

I will always do my best to ensure this compatibility section is updated when there are known conflicts.

If you do come across a compatibility issue, please let me know! It is best to report compatibility issues on our GitHub issue page for better tracking. If you experience animation issues when using modded items that utilize the reequip animation, then turn off the reequip animation in the configuration menu.

Does this mod have a dedicated discord server?

While this discord server isn't dedicated to the mod itself, this is definitely a place where you can come by to share ideas, report issues, and/or just hangout to see what's new.

Can I include this mod in my pack?

If your mod pack is distributed on CurseForge, then yes! :)

Is this mod server safe?

Yes. This only changes visual animations and is client-side only.

Will there be a Fabric port for 1.16?

Yes. This will take some time though since the current version I'm working on is 1.18.

I ran into an issue running this mod.

Please submit an issue at our Github page or Discord server.

The mod loaded, but some features are not working.

This means there is a mod conflict. A possible solution is to make sure OSECA loads last (or first) and see if that fixes the issue.
