Also, this mod is dedicated to Etho and his love of Mini-Wheats. He is free to use this in his modpack(s) if he so chooses (however, if you are not Etho and wish to use this in your pack, fear not! See the info at the bottom under Distribution).
This is the first mod I have released to the public, so I hope I don't dissapoint you all.
After popular demand, I have decided to make a 1.7.10 version of this mod. It adds a bunch of mini-wheat-based food items into the game.
Some of the pieces of food may be overpowered at the moment, but I have tried to balance them at least somewhat with the addition of the double, triple, and quadruple miniwheats. I also redid most of the textures to make them more aesthetically pleasing. Now, onto the good stuff!
Info
First off, to make the block from which all of the rest of the mod is based upon, you must cook a block of hay in a furnace. This will yeild you a block of shredded wheat.

There's also a block of sugar you can craft by putting them in a 2x2 shape. You can craft a frosted variant of the Shredded Wheat block by combining it either with the aforementioned block or just manually with the four sugar.
Breaking this block drops four Shredded Mini-Wheats. There is a progressively smaller chance that you will also get double, triple, and even quadruple versions of the wini-wheats. These are essentially bonus mini-wheats, as the block always drops four items.
The frosted block drops frosted mini-wheats, but you may alternatively apply the sugar to the mini-wheats themselves if you so please, at the cost of one sugar per mini-wheat equivalent.
Once frosted, the mini-wheats cannot be de-frosted.

Breaking the blocks with anything will drop the mini-wheats (unless it has silk touch applied to it), but an axe is more effective at chopping them up into smaller pieces.
Eating a frosted mini-wheat gives you the Speed effect for nine seconds, plus three seconds per single mini-wheat equivalent that's fused onto it. The triple ones give you Speed II, and the quadruple Speed III.
Each unfrosted shredded mini-wheat equivalent provides two hunger points (one shank), while the frosted ones provide three (one and a half shanks). This means that the fused ones can be eaten for the total of the smaller mini-wheats that make them up; However, combined ones equal saturation of their single-pieces, the unfrosted ones being two-thirds that of bread, and the frosted ones being just between that of unfrosted and bread. The exception to the above is the quadruple mini-wheats, which have a small bonus in saturation.
Also, the fused mini-wheats have modified stack sizes. The double wheats only stack to 32, the triple to 24, and the single to 16. (64 divided by 3 is 21.something-or-other, so I decided to round it up to a nice and multiple-of-many-nice-even-numbers 24)
The fused mini-wheats can be broken into the largest whole number they are divisible by. In other words, double and triple are broken into the single variants, and the quadruple are broken into two doubles. Keep in mind that they cannot be combined back into their larger counterparts, as you broke the molecular bonds that once held them together.

And last, but not least, you can combine two mini-wheats of the same variety (or their equivalent) with a bucket of milk and a bowl to make cereal out of them. The bucket is not consumed in the process.

Eating a bowl of frosted mini-wheats restores eight points of hunger (four shanks, or the equivalent to steak or the old mushroom stew (rest in peace)), has the saturation of <insert fulfilling cooked meat here>, and will give you the Speed II effect for thirty seconds.
The unfrosted bowls only restore six points (three shanks, or cooked chicken equivalent without whatever mod overhauls the yeild of everything). However, they provides more saturation than their frosted bretheren. That sugar rush tends to cause you to get hungry sooner.
There was originally a frosted mini-wheat crafting table you could make, but that has since been removed since I couldn't figure out how to add the crafting GUI to the block (without it closing on the next tick).
The latest version of this mod is for Minecraft 1.7.10.
A slightly outdated version of the mod is available for 1.8 (see info at the bottom of this post).
Distribution
If you want to use this mod in your own pack, to be honest with you I would be quite flattered. That being said, please let me know you are doing so if you plan on distributing it in the public (ie. if it's not a private pack only you and a few friends/siblings/underlings will be playing). All you need to do is send me a PM via Curse or, more effectively, Reddit @ /u/CrazyGrape. I promise I won't bite.
Also, please don't put my mod(s) behind your own personal adfly links. I will find you (or at least, I'm pretty sure I will. I can't catch everyone).
Slightly Old (yet for a more recent version of Minecraft) Info:
So I thought "Huh, I may as well actually make this a thing." That is exactly what I did. Since I literally started this yesterday (Today is Sept. 25 where I live), the textures are a bit bland, but as this was made just for fun I'm not sure if I'll actually be fixing them.
So without further ado, I present to you: the Mini Wheats Mod!
First off, to make the shredded wheat, you must first cook a block of hay in a furnace:

After this, the block can be crafted in to four mini wheats when placed anywhere in the crafting grid:

They can be eaten for three hunger points (one and a half shanks), with two-thirds the saturation of bread.
However, if you wish for a morsel more filling, simply plop it into a crafting window with sugar to turn it into a frosted variant.

These can be eaten individually for four hunger points (two shanks), with a saturation value just under bread. Additionally, when eaten, the speed affect will be applied to you for nine seconds! Gotta love that sugar rush!
And now for the meat of this mod; the grand enchilada; the great Gatsby (well, probably not that): The Mini-Wheat table!
It's crafted like your vanilla crafting table, in the standard 2x2 square.

It's, well, just a crafting table. That's it. Getting it to work was a bit trickier than I thought it would be, but it should work.
Fun Fact: all of the screenshots I took of the recipes were from a GUI opened up by this very block.
And last, but certainly not least, we have the bowl of cereal! I made it use up few enough inventory slots to be crafted in the 2x2 grid, just for ease of use. It's made with an empty bowl, two frosted mini wheats, and a bucket of milk. And no, the bucket is not consumed in the process. That would be ridiculous.

Consuming this beauty restores a whopping eight hunger points (The equivalent of steak, or the old mushroom stew), but that's not even the best part! This sugary breakfast gives you a burst of energy, applying the speed buff to you for thirty seconds. That being said, the sugary-ness cancels out the nullification properties of the milk, so you won't be able to reset your buff conditions using it in this state. It also has enough saturation to last you as long as any good breakfast should.
Also, the bowl of cereal is so magical, it levitates above your hand! (Totally not an oversight in the .json file that I was too lazy to fix... It's better this way, trust me.)
And that pretty much covers everything. I have fairly rudimentary modding skills, but this mod is basic enough that I don't think any bugs will really arise. Most likely, the case will be some sort of discrepancy from the data in this project description, hopefully not the images of screenshots I took with the mod right before putting it up here.
The earliest version of this mod is for Minecraft 1.8. (Sorry if you wanted to include it in your 1.7.10 modded playthrough)
At the moment, the latest version is the exact same as above.
