Description

NOTE: M4thThings has been completely re-written. The new version (released on Jan. 14, 2016) is completely incompatible with the prior version. If you were still using the old version - I'm sorry.

Please give me feedback. :-) This mod is still in its early stage, so any "good job"s or "have you thought about..."s are extremely helpful! Thanks! Note that I am also a full time graduate student, so modding may not be a top priority during the school year. I will still attempt to keep content coming and fixing bugs, but please be patient! :-)

Regarding 1.8.9: I plan to continue development on the mod in 1.8.9. The 0.0.0-alpha release for Minecraft 1.8.9 only contains the tanks and the required materials for interacting with them. Pipes will come back later (along with more tweaks/edits to the current implementation.)

Background:

This mod is really a chance for me to try my hand at programming something that I both like and can use in the future. It's not meant to be a "big" mod (like Thaumcraft, Thermal Expansion, etc...) but rather a companion/utility mod to help out with smaller features (sort of like OpenBlocks and ExtraUtilities). That being said, this mod may end up having some of the same features as those other mods, but with my own unique tweaks. ;-) I also have some (very) unique content planned, assuming I have time to implement it. If you have suggestions as to items/blocks that can be helpful for inter-mod interaction (without breaking those other mods...be nice), I will gladly listen to them! I won't explain all the recipes here - I suggest installing NEI (or a similar mod) to help with those.

Basic Items:

In order to get started in this mod, you'll need some gilded iron, which is created using either an iron ingot surrounded by four gold nuggets or a block of iron surrounded by gold ingots (the latter recipe provides a block of gilded iron). You can then use this gilded iron (and other vanilla resources) to create everything else included in the alpha release. If you use the 4D wrench in the air, it will alternate between its standard form and its inverted form (read on).

The Tank:

There are currently 2 tanks you can craft: the basic tank and the quantum tank. The former can hold 8 buckets of any Forge fluid and the latter 256 buckets (on par with XU's drum for a slightly reduced cost). Both tanks can be broken with a pickaxe or dismantled with a wrench and will retain their contents. Bonus: both tanks can also be used as a ladder in a pinch. There are three different mods the tanks can be in: Default (nothing special), Drain (which drains fluid into other tanks/IFluidHandlers that are beneath the tank), and Place (which attempts to place the fluid into the world in the spot directly below the tank. Both tanks can alternate between Default and Drain mode by sneak-right-clicking on them with an empty hand. In order to access Drain mode, you must be using a Quantum (gold/advanced) tank and right click (not sneak) with a wrench.

Fluid Transfer System:

I hesitate to call these pipes because they are so much better than pipes. By using a little gilded iron and stone, you can create the Magical Pipe, which on its own does absolutely nothing except attempt to connect to adjacent Magical Pipe and to any tile entity with a tank. They also look really bad...I wonder if we can do anything about that (see below)? Right-clicking any side with any wrench will toggle the connection on that side (indicated by tiny hemispheres - that's right, more spheres) floating near the block edge. Right-clicking with the Inverted 4D Wrench will toggle the connection on the opposite side of the block (this helps when you place the pipes against a line of tanks or something). A special note about these pipes: they cannot be destroyed with tools. In order to remove them from the world you must use a wrench to dismantle them. In order to get fluid to move through the pipes, you must place Fluid Import Valve on whichever side of a tank you want to pull from. (Note: both the basic and quantum tanks will only allow fluid insertion/extraction out the top/bottom.) And yes: each fluid takes a slightly unique path through the pipes and the path-finding algorithm (currently) is depth-first, meaning the fluid may not take the shortest route to its destination. (It searches the directions in order of the Forge Directions enumeration. ) Now, you may notice there are no pipe blocks in the pictures provided. That leads us into the:

Magic Button:

You craft a magic button with a wooden button and the 4D wrench in a crafting grid (don't worry - the wrench will not be consumed). If you use this magic button, all of the pipes in the world seem to disappear! They're still there, don't worry - you just can't see them! Particle effects will still show you where/when fluid is moving through them, but those ugly things are no longer a problem! If you need to see the pipes again, just use the button another time! Note: pipes will always be visible when you are holding any wrench, Magical Pipe, or Fluid Import Valve.

Pack Permissions:

You're free to use this mod in any mod pack as long as you let me know it's being used! :-)

Suggestions, comments, and constructive criticism are always welcome and encouraged! I would like to both make this mod useful and visually appealing. Please let me know what I can do to make this mod amazing!

Issues:

Please report issues on the "Issues" tab and not in the comments. If you crash, please include a link to the crash report on pastebin (or something similar). Do not post the whole crash report in the issue (or in the comments for that matter...)

On the to-do list:

  • Fluid filtering in the transport system
  • Alternate Magical Pipes
  • RF transport/storage
  • Cobblestone compression (compatible with XU compressed cobble)
  • Larger, multi-block tanks that can hold an incredible amount of fluid
  • Surprises...so many surprises
