Short Description

Best Possible Luck is a Minecraft Forge 1.12.2 mod that changes how vanilla “luck” works by biasing existing game systems instead of replacing Minecraft’s randomness engine. Choose between Lucky or Unlucky world states and experience altered loot, mob behavior, world generation, combat outcomes, and survival mechanics.

Full Description

Best Possible Luck is a Minecraft Forge 1.12.2 experiment that reworks how “luck” behaves in vanilla Minecraft by selectively biasing existing RNG-driven systems rather than overriding the global random engine. The goal is to keep Minecraft’s core feel intact while making outcomes noticeably favorable or hostile depending on the selected luck state.

At the center of the mod is a simple global setting:

  • /lucktype lucky

  • /lucktype unlucky

Lucky mode shifts many gameplay systems toward beneficial outcomes, while unlucky mode inverts those same systems into more punishing or chaotic behavior.

This affects far more than loot tables. The mod modifies world generation, mob behavior, combat interactions, survival mechanics, and environmental events through targeted event hooks.

World Generation and Environment

  • Ore generation, terrain decoration, chunk population, and map generation can be biased based on luck state.

  • Diamond ore receives a significant boost in lucky mode, along with stronger general overworld ore presence.

  • Weather cycles are influenced to feel more stable or more volatile depending on configuration.

  • Certain dangerous world features such as lava placement can be reduced in lucky worlds.

  • Structure generation can be enhanced through configurable hooks.

Mobs and Spawning

  • Hostile and passive spawn logic can be biased depending on luck state.

  • Variants such as zombie types, slime sizes, and spider behaviors are influenced.

  • Spider jockeys become more likely in unlucky mode.

  • Sheep color bias is adjusted, including rare outcomes under lucky conditions.

  • Mob pathing and animal behavior can shift subtly based on world state.

Loot, Drops, and Progression

  • Chest loot is post-processed when opened, allowing dynamic modification of rewards.

  • Villager trades are biased toward better or worse outcomes depending on luck type.

  • Fishing results can be influenced toward treasure or junk.

  • Block drops, entity drops, and experience gain can be individually enabled or disabled through gamerules.

  • Special drop logic can alter outcomes such as gravel producing flint or leaves producing apples when enabled.

  • Mineshaft generation can be enhanced to guarantee loot-bearing chest minecarts in lucky mode.

Combat and Projectiles

  • Player melee, critical hits, and looting mechanics can be influenced by luck state.

  • Projectile behavior is adjusted, including arrows receiving improved aim correction in lucky mode.

  • End crystal and End-related projectile interactions receive enhanced performance bias in lucky states.

  • Hostile projectile accuracy (ghasts, blazes, witches) is reduced in lucky mode to make combat more forgiving.

Movement and Survival Systems

  • Subtle parkour assistance can adjust landing trajectories toward valid blocks to reduce frustrating falls.

  • Fishing hooks behave more consistently in PvP interactions.

  • Hazard evasion reduces accidental deaths near fire and lava in lucky mode.

  • Fire damage duration can be reduced under favorable conditions.

  • Eye of Ender behavior can be slightly stabilized for more predictable travel.

Configuration and Control
The mod provides extensive gamerule-based configuration, allowing each system to be enabled or disabled individually. Key options include:

  • World and generation systems (ore generation, weather, structures)

  • Mob and spawn systems

  • Loot and drop systems

  • Combat and projectile systems

  • Survival and movement systems

Some impactful systems, such as hostile spawning and experience modification, are disabled by default to prevent unintended balance disruption unless explicitly enabled.

Debug and Commands

  • /lucktype lucky | /lucktype unlucky (primary control)

  • Strict validation prevents invalid states

  • Debug entities available for testing mob and projectile behavior with short lifespans

Best Possible Luck is designed for players who want Minecraft to feel like it has a “mood” rather than pure randomness. Every system remains recognizable, but outcomes consistently lean toward luck-driven narratives instead of neutral probability.
