Now with 1.12-1.16 support! 
The Emerald and Obsidian mod by royalreafer was a well known mod back then, which added exactly what it said on the tin, emerald and obsidian armor and tools.
Unfortunately, the original mod only got updated to 1.10, and development ended from there.
This mod is intended as a direct port to more recent versions (starting from 1.12.2) that only changes a few things while keeping the original mod contents intact.
Now without further ado, I present you, the Emerald & Obsidian Mod!
Mod Roadmap
This mod will add:
Emerald and Obsidian tools
Emerald and Obsidian armor
Emerald and Obsidian weapons
Armor and Tool Durability
Most recipes are the same as in the original mod, but I recommend using JEI alongside this mod for easier crafting.
I will only be listing major recipe changes here:
Shurikens
Use the corresponding material to craft it in a cross without the middle
Multitool
Craft a pickaxe, axe, hoe, shovel, and shears together
Special Arrows
Combine an arrow with the appropriate material
Most significant change is that in the 1.16 port due to villager changes and the addition of a new tier, the emerald armor has been nerfed to somewhere between diamond/iron while Obsidian armor has been nerfed slightly below Netherite in some aspects but not others.
Quality of Life Changes
Potion particles removed for wearing armor
Emerald Armor "hair" removed
70% Chance that Shuriken will drop
Obsidian Shuriken has a 30% chance to set mobs on fire
Shurikens have their own cool sounds for throwing and impact
Other Changes
A few armor/tool/weapon stats changed for balancing and so it makes sense (emeralds are also now plentiful in the newer versions due to the villager changes)
Emerald armor gives you a luck boost if you wear it
Reinforced tool mining style changed a bit but still keeps the "powerful breaking" in mind
Obsidian sword has a chance to ignite entity on fire
Scimitar wither effect removed, it's now a "nimble blade" compared to the more bulky (but powerful) slasher
A few textures changed for tools
Armor textures changed a bit
Reinforced shovels break stone as well
(Not a bug but more related to versioning) 1.12.2: Modded arrows won't function because tags weren't introduced yet

How to Install
Download Forge & Java
Download Forge from the offical Site or here. If you dont have Java installed then install it now from here. After Downloading Forge you can run the file with Java.
Prepare
Lounch Minecraft and select your Forge istallation as Version this will create a Folder called Mods.
Add Mods
Type Win+R and type %appdata% and open the .minecraft Folder. There will you find your Folder called Mods. Place all Mods you want to play in this Folder
Enjoy
You are now Ready. Re-start your Game and start Playing.
