DynamicWaters adds dynamic, flowing rivers to Minecraft. Water is no longer static or “fake-looking” in long river shapes - instead, rivers now behave more naturally with visible flow and direction, making the world feel more alive and immersive. Main rivers are also fed by smaller mountain streams, which flow down from higher terrain and naturally connect into larger river systems, creating a much more realistic and visually cohesive world.

In modern Minecraft versions (1.18+), rivers often feel like long, flat pools with no real movement. Older solutions like the Streams mod existed but are no longer maintained, and large mods like TerraFirmaCraft are too complex if you only want improved water physics. This mod aims to fill that missing gap.
Unlike standard flat Vanilla rivers, Dynamic Waters uses a custom, highly optimized region-based generation system.
Main rivers form continuous, meandering networks at sea level. Mountain rivers are generated using an advanced drain-to-source algorithm: they start at main river junctions and work their way uphill while sampling the terrain heightmap. This allows them to naturally form flat water terraces on gentle slopes and create dramatic vertical waterfalls on steep cliffs.
Thanks to a strict regional grid system (preventing chunk cascading) and heavy caching, the mod achieves strong performance, delivering realistic flowing water with no lag and minimally slower chunk generation.

Dynamic Waters is designed to work alongside most modern worldgen mods.

Waves in Wavify follow the natural flow of rivers, moving downstream with the current for a more realistic and immersive water simulation:

Q: Will there be a NeoForge 1.21.1 port?
A: Probably in the future. For now, my priority is finishing and polishing the 1.20.1 Forge version first.
Q: Does this work on existing worlds?
A: No - you need to create a new world. Since Dynamic Waters modifies world generation, already generated terrain will not regenerate correctly.
Q: Will rivers become more realistic in future versions?
A: Yes - river generation, flow behavior and terrain interaction are planned to become more advanced over time.
Q: Can I include this mod in my modpack?
A: Yes - feel free to include Dynamic Waters in your modpack without any problem. Credit is appreciated, but not required. If possible, linking back to the mod page is always welcome.

You can also craft a Custom Flow Bucket to place flowing river water!
