The Chalk Mod is a small RPG-like mod that gives you the option to access a mechanic that gives you experience and stats based off of your choices. You gain experience from taking damage, also known as Fel Essence. The mechanic itself cannot be activated until you eat something called Chalk's Heart. To build it, you put a 3x3 grid of charcoal blocks in the crafting table. A charcoal block is created with a 3×3 grid of charcoal in a crafting table. By default, the leveling system is opened up with the letter K.
