Vanilla makes bedrock permanent. The floor of the world and the roof of the Nether stay sealed forever. Breaking Bedrock lets you mine straight through it with a netherite pickaxe. Fully configurable. No commands, no cheats.
Mine bedrock with a netherite pickaxe, just like any other block
Configurable mining speed, from a quick dig to a long grind, or fully indestructible
Configurable explosion resistance, keep it blast-proof or let TNT punch through
Optionally make bedrock drop as a block when you break it
Respects the correct-tool requirement and the Efficiency enchantment
Clear the Nether roof, flatten the bottom of the world, or tidy up the border
Lightweight and mixin-based, no performance cost and no dependencies on NeoForge
Works in single-player and on servers, on Fabric and NeoForge
⚙️ Configuration
Every option lives in config/breakingbedrock.properties, generated automatically on first launch:
destroy_time — how long bedrock takes to break (obsidian is 50, stone is 1.5, -1 is indestructible). Default 100.
explosion_resist — bedrock's blast resistance (stone is 6, glass is 0.3). Default 3600000.
drop_bedrock — whether bedrock drops as a block when broken. Default false.
❓ FAQ
Does it need any other mods? On NeoForge it's completely standalone. On Fabric you'll need Fabric API.
Can I change the mining speed or make bedrock breakable by other tools? The break time, blast resistance, and drops are set in the config. Bedrock requires a netherite pickaxe by default, and the tool tier can be changed with a data pack.
Will this corrupt or break my world? No. It only changes bedrock's hardness, blast resistance, and drops, nothing destructive.
Is it client-side or server-side? Install it wherever the world runs. For multiplayer that means the server.
Can I add this to my modpack? Yes.
