Always Online aims at both: protecting players and simplifying the way they join lan worlds within your modpack.
It uses a host server part and client parts (client has to be configured).
What it does may seem fantastic to you: it allows to join players that have the same host server set up, if they share their world. It is similar to sharing world to LAN, but it also informs host server of your world, so others could join without knowing your IP. This also brings security issue, thus you may set password!
Now some Q&A to help you understand how this mod actually works:
Q: Okay, what is host server?
A: This is a bridge between clients. Host stores information about all running worlds and their owners.

Q: How to configure clients?
A: Within your pack, you edit config/alwaysonline.cfg and specify IP and port of the Host Server. That way, client will know where to route those requests to get lists of players and to post own world, ofc.
To create a host server you need to either put this mod (and
Hammer Core too, SORRY) on your hosted MC server. There you can configure host's port. Another option would be to download a runnable jar file. It has only that built in. Also, NONE of these solutions use ANY drive storage, since amount of data is tiny and it is enough to keep it in RAM. (I'm talking about kilobytes, or megabytes!)

At last, yes. This mod requires
Hammer Core. This is just one of those things that are pretty hard to embed, so it's a dependency.
I would appreciate if someone would host a Host Server as a default option! I will credit the one who will do this, in-game.

How to Install
Download Forge & Java
Download Forge from the offical Site or here. If you dont have Java installed then install it now from here. After Downloading Forge you can run the file with Java.
Prepare
Lounch Minecraft and select your Forge istallation as Version this will create a Folder called Mods.
Add Mods
Type Win+R and type %appdata% and open the .minecraft Folder. There will you find your Folder called Mods. Place all Mods you want to play in this Folder
Enjoy
You are now Ready. Re-start your Game and start Playing.
